FAQ & Help Guide

Ways to set a custom ringtone on iPhone in 2026?

There are several reliable methods to install a custom .m4r ringtone, depending on whether you prefer to use your iPhone alone or with a computer:

  • GarageBand (No computer required): The most popular mobile method. Download a tone in Safari and use the free GarageBand app to export it directly to your iOS sound library. Learn more.
  • Mac (Finder): For modern macOS versions, connect your iPhone to your Mac and simply drag the .m4r file into the iPhone window in Finder to sync it instantly. Learn more.
  • Windows PC (Apple Devices or iTunes): Connect your iPhone to your PC and use the Apple Devices app (or iTunes) to add the custom tone to the Tones section of your device. Learn more.
How do I find my downloaded ringtone in Settings?

Once your tone is transferred, you can find it within your system settings:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics.
  3. Under Sounds and Haptic Patterns, tap Ringtone.

Your custom tones will appear at the top of the list, above the standard built-in options.

Note: Downloaded files only appear in this list after being synced via Finder (Mac), the Apple Devices app (PC), or exported from GarageBand.
Why isn't my custom ringtone working?
Check file requirements. iOS has strict rules for custom tones. Your file will not appear if it doesn't meet these standards:
  • Length: Must be 30 seconds or less.
  • Format: Must be in .m4r format.

Note: All ringtones on our website are pre-formatted to .m4r and trimmed to 30 seconds for full compatibility with your iPhone.

Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone and ensure your tone has a checkmark next to it.

If you used GarageBand, make sure you exported it via the "Share" menu as a Ringtone. Finally, check that the sound is selected under Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone.

Check your device settings:

- Silent Mode: Ensure the Ring/Silent switch on the side of your iPhone isn't showing orange.

- Volume: Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and move the Ringer and Alerts slider to the right.

- Focus: Open Control Center and make sure Do Not Disturb or other Focus modes are turned off.

If you’re still having issues with custom tones:

- Restart/Force Restart: Restart your iPhone to clear potential software glitches.

- Check Bluetooth: Disconnect any connected Bluetooth devices that might be stealing the audio.

- If not visible: Restart the Settings app or restart your iPhone to refresh the list.

Sync: If it doesn't appear immediately, ensure your Finder settings are set to sync, or wait for the sync to complete.

If it still doesn't appear, restart your iPhone.

Why .M4R and 30 seconds?
  • Format: iOS uses the .m4r extension to identify system alerts. This ensures your file appears in «Sound» settings rather than your Music library.
  • Length: Apple limits custom tones to 30 seconds to ensure seamless looping and system stability. Files longer than 30-40 seconds are often ignored by the system and won't appear in your list.

Our ringtones are pre-optimized to meet these requirements instantly.

Can I install ringtones without a computer?
Yes. Download the file to the Files app, then use GarageBand for iOS to export it as a Ringtone. This method bypasses the need for cables or external software.
Which Windows application is recommended for syncing?
Apple recommends using the Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store. It is the modern replacement for iTunes and allows you to easily drag and drop .m4r files onto your iPhone.
How do I assign a ringtone to a specific contact?
1. Open the «Contacts» app and select the desired contact.
2. Tap «Edit» in the upper-right corner, then tap «Ringtone» to choose a unique sound for that specific contact.
Can I set different ringtones for different Focus Modes?
Currently, iOS allows you to silence or allow specific contacts in Focus Modes (Work, Sleep, Personal), but the ringtone remains the same. To have different sounds, we recommend assigning unique ringtones to your "Allowed" contacts.
Do these ringtones work on iPad?
Yes. iPadOS uses the same .m4r format. You can use them for FaceTime calls and message alerts on any iPad.
Can I change notification sounds for WhatsApp or Telegram?
Yes, many apps allow choosing custom sounds in their own Settings > Notifications menu using your system ringtone list.
How do I delete a custom ringtone from my iPhone?
Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone. Swipe left on the custom tone name and tap Delete.
Where did my ringtones go after the iOS 26 (19) update?
Major updates like iOS 26 (19) may occasionally reset sound settings. If your custom tone disappeared, simply go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and re-select it; the file should still be stored on your device.
All our files are pre-formatted to 29-30 seconds and .m4r for perfect compatibility with iOS.
